~ Meet the Leo ~ Emily Day

Bell Brook Farm

Emily Day is a true creative and delightful human. She runs Bell Brook Farm, a gorgeous flower farm and design studio in West Brookfield, MA where she creates floral designs for weddings, events, and special orders. She has a seasonal flower stand on the farm, offers floral CSA shares, and in the winter, the farm sells the most magical Christmas trees, wreaths, and other local goods to make your home feel extra cozy and festive. She also has been curating dining adventures called The Curious Table, a delicious dinner series featuring Chef Krista Maloney at various extraordinary settings around Massachusetts. The location is not released until the day before the event for an extra fun twist! Follow along her journey at Bell Brook Farm and @bellbrookfarm.

What are your sun/moon/rising astrological placements?

Leo, Libra, Libra

How do you feel your signs have an influence over your work?

Truthfully, I never really identified with being a Leo and was sort of embarrassed to own it. In only the last few years I've really realized its influence over me and my work. I might be a bit shy, socially awk, and prefer to operate behind the scenes, but I'm committed to creating work that I'm proud of and that represents me and my brand authentically. I always want to be better, to top the last rendition, and to be noticed for it. Can't get much more Leo than that.

Tell us about a favorite scent memory.

I have a lot of scent memory connections but I think my favorite will always be the smell of pine burning. It represents some of my favorite things: a bonfire with friends, the transition to colder days ahead and the morning ritual of lighting a wood stove. It also has some sort of Sturbridge village vibes - a kind of memory ignited that might be even older than this particular lifetime (pun intended)

What color are you really vibing with lately?

Yellows. Must be all the rain but buttery honey tones and bright cheerful yellow are what I'm drawn to this year.

What’s something interesting that you’ve read, watched, or listened to recently?

I just listened to Beth Kimpton's Wabi Sabi on audiobook which hit on much of how I've been feeling lately. I'm always looking for an uncomplicated comedy to watch to tune it all out. What We Do in the Shadows has been doing that for me.

Do you have any magical rituals or special ways you like to unwind in your space?

Listen to nature. I'm outside most of my days and it really becomes white noise but when I'm feeling stressed or overwhelmed or just like I need to find a bit of appreciation again, I tune in. When I start to hear it all individually again, it becomes magic. The cricket, a new bird call, a hummingbird whizzing by, bees buzzing, leaves rustling. It's very grounding.

What’s something exciting you’re looking forward to this year?

I've been getting the opportunity to collaborate with so many amazingly creative and talented people lately. I still have a few events this year where I have some great people freelance designing for me, a few dates where I'm freelancing for other incredible design studios, and another Curious Table dinner that I get to dream up with like minded partners. I'm also always excited to see the farm go through its seasons. It doesn't get old.
